Kowai Bush Homestay is located in the scenic native bush area of Selwyn district. Our home is situated close to Springifeld on highway 73 and is a great place to stay whilst exploring everything the region has to offer. Kowai Bush has high country horse trekking, Alpine Jetboating, and bush walks in nearby Lords Bush, or adjoining Kowai Bush reserve.
When the temperature drops, Canterbury’s peaks become a winter playground - with more ski areas than anywhere in the Southern Hemisphere. Our home is 25 mins away from Porters Ski field. Further skiing can be had at Mt Hutt, Craigieburn, Mt Cheeseman, Temple Basin, Mt Olympus, and Broken River.
Castle Hill is a little further up the road from Porters offering Mountain Biking, Forest Park, and world class climbing, it is widely considered to be the epitome of New Zealand’s South Island climbing scene. Nearby areas were used for the filming of various famous movies. And in 2002 was named the ‘Spiritual Centre of the Universe’ by the Dalai Lama.
Cave Stream is a fantastic little excursion whcih takes you through a lime stone cave system with the stream running through. Closed toe shoes and torches are necessary.
